If part of your day includes entering purchase requisitions or vouchers, you’re familiar with having to enter a category code for each item you are buying or paying for. The categories help the University track spending and negotiate better pricing, but it was difficult and time-consuming to choose the correct category from a list of 55,000 choices.
Have you noticed the list is a lot shorter? It’s down to just around 850, as a matter of fact. Codes starting with “UNC” or “EHS” stayed the same, but the rest of the categories were rolled up into a higher level, usually the ones that ended in “0000”. For example, instead of choosing 44121702 for Pen or Pencil Sets, you choose 44120000 for Office Supplies.
