Dear Faculty Member,
We are pleased to announce that beginning Thursday, September 20, you will see a new home screen in ConnectCarolina called the Faculty Portal. You may have received an email earlier this year about the Faculty Portal, but you weren’t able to receive it because you have access to options that weren’t available on the Faculty Portal. More options have been added to the Faculty Portal, so now all faculty members can have the Faculty Portal as their home page in ConnectCarolina.
If you typically use “Main Menu” to get to pages in ConnectCarolina, you can use the Navigator button (the one that looks like a compass in the top right-hand corner of the page) to see the menu options you have access to in ConnectCarolina. Any “favorites” you have added in ConnectCarolina will be on the new Faculty Portal as well.
What is the Faculty Portal?
The faculty portal, created with input from faculty members across campus and the Faculty Information Technology Advisory Committee (FITAC), puts the teaching and research information faculty use most on the first screen you see in ConnectCarolina.
On one page, called the Faculty Portal, you can see:
- your teaching schedules
- which students have incompletes in your classes
- financial information about contracts and grants on which you are the lead PI (on the new “PI Dashboard”)
- approval notifications from research applications such as RAMSeS and ecrt
- charging instructions for your salary
Teaching schedules on the home page means fewer clicks to print class rosters, email students, create academic progress reports, and enter grades. In addition, the Student Admin WorkCenter, found by clicking the Student Administration button on the left side of the screen, contains most functions faculty members use for teaching purposes. FITAC helped us choose which links to include on the portal, but you can also add custom links to make the Faculty Portal even more useful to you.
Want More Information?
Visit the Faculty page on ccinfo.unc.edu for resources, including a quick-start guide that explains how to use the Faculty Portal. You can also find the quick-start guide in the Help and Support box on the right side of the Faculty Portal. If you have questions or concerns, you can contact the ITS Service Desk at 962-HELP or help.unc.edu.
We hope you find the new Faculty Portal useful and welcome thoughts and feedback on how we can further improve the ConnectCarolina experience for faculty.
The ConnectCarolina Team
