Tax Form Basics The W-4 (and NC-4) are input documents that you provide to the University and the state. A W-2 is an output document that the University provides to you. You completed your W-4 and NC-4 when you were hired so that the University’s payroll department knew how much tax to withhold from your earned income. Then, at the end of the year, your W-2 reports how much you earned that year and what deductions (like state and local taxes) were taken out. |
