You can opt out of receiving a paper W-2 form and instead download an electronic copy from the ConnectCarolina Self-Service menu when the 2020 W-2s are released. More than 13,200 University employees have opted out of printed W-2s, and you still have time to opt out for this tax year. If you consented to receive electronic forms once, you don’t have to do it again, and you also have the option to go back to a paper form. Consider it an opportunity to “go green,” and more, save the cost of postage for the University to mail your W-2s this year. From the Self Service home page in ConnectCarolina, click the My Pay and Taxes tile, and then W-2/W2c Consent. Follow the instructions on the screen to stop receiving a printed W-2. Paper W-2s If you prefer a paper copy of your W-2, keep in mind that, because many of us are working remotely, you won’t find your W-2 in your campus mailbox or get it from your supervisor. Your home address is where the University sends your printed tax forms and benefits correspondence. Please take a minute to double-check your home address in ConnectCarolina and update it if needed. To do that, log in to ConnectCarolina and go to the Self Service home page. From there, click the Personal Information tile, and then the Addresses option on the left side of the Personal Information screen. … Read more
If you’re an Access Request Coordinator (ARC), you may experience a sense of dread when you receive an access request form for an employee that requires access to more than one area or system because you know that it means an individual request for each system. Many of you have mentioned that you’d like to be able to submit one request in the Access Request Tool for multiple systems and let the system decide how to route them. New! Main Request & Sub-Requests We have good news for you. Later this summer, we’ll be rolling out a revamped Access Request Tool that will let you submit one request even if the employee needs access to Finance, HR/Payroll, and Student Admin pages. You’ll submit one electronic request, called the main request, and the system will create sub-requests that each go through their separate approval process. Each piece of access will be granted individually, so employees who need access won’t have to wait for all access to be approved before they receive any access. A small pilot group will be working with the new tool in early July. As soon as the pilot is completed, we’ll send you word that the new … Read more

In August, the timing and method of some student award payments were changed to ensure the University remains compliant with federal and state regulations. Following that successful launch, the team is working on Phase 2, which includes: 1. More Efficient Way to Request Increases to Cost of Attendance In some cases when a student receives a new award, the student’s cost of Attendance (COA) can be increased and that means the new award doesn’t affect the student’s other financial aid. Currently, to request an increase, the awarding department emails the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid who manually adjusts the student’s COA if appropriate. Starting later this year, departments will be able to request a COA increase online and, if appropriate, the request will automatically increase the COA in the Financial Aid system. 2. Capturing Non-Monetary Awards and Pre-Paid Awards Students may be given non-monetary awards, such as computers and supplies, or pre-paid awards like gift cards. These should be considered financial aid but currently aren’t. The system will soon allow departments to enter this information and report it to Financial Aid. 3. Down the Road: Enhanced Reporting Because all departmental student awards are now moving through the same process, it’s a good opportunity to enhance reporting for schools, … Read more

In early spring 2022, a group led by Mechelle Clayton, Interim AVC of Enterprise Applications, met to discuss ways to simplify the access request process. They started by asking for feedback from campus users, central offices, ARCs, and others so they could understand the pain points and used that feedback to identify requirements and set priorities for changes to the current process and tools. Some of the pain points raised are: Security Roles: There are too many security roles, and descriptions are unclear. Combine roles into groups for easier selection and maintenance. Manual Processes: Current processes are manual. Paper forms and keying data into the system is time-consuming and often lead to errors and missing or conflicting information. Automating assignment of security access for new employees, employee terminations, and employee transfers into new positions would speed up the processes and result in cleaner role assignments. Documentation and Training: There is confusion about how to sign up for training and where to find help documentation. Navigation and Tracking: Access Resource Coordinators (ARCs)across Finance, HR/Payroll, Student Administration, and departments use different approaches for managing access requests. It’s difficult to track when an employee has completed the mandatory training, and it isn’t easy … Read more

Paying for college can be daunting, and fears of tuition increases before graduation day can add to the challenge. Starting this fall, undergraduates who are NC residents qualify for the Fixed Tuition Payment bill, passed by the NC legislature in May 2016. The bill guarantees that tuition remains constant or decreases during a student’s “tuition period,” which is defined as eight consecutive academic semesters for a four-year program. Once the tuition period ends, tuition for any additional semesters reverts to the prevailing rate at the institution, plus a surcharge if applicable.
A decision tree that helps the user select the correct form for making a salary source change, depending on the pay cycle type, wages type, and pay period.

To keep sensitive information safe, the University uses a security method called 2-Step Verification. With this method, you verify that “you’re you” before you see certain sensitive information. Enrolling in 2-Step takes just 10 minutes and helps keep you and UNC secure.

If you use Mozilla Firefox to access ConnectCarolina, you may notice that you can’t view signatures on PDF attachments. If you are noticing this issue, we recommend that you either switch to Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, or that you change your Firefox options to open PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. To change your settings in Firefox, go to Options in the right-hand corner, choose Applications, and change the Portable Document Format (PDF) settings to Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. You’ll need to restart your browser after making this change. One thing to be aware of is that if you change this setting, all PDF documents will be opened with the Adobe program you chose (even PDF documents not in ConnectCarolina). If you don’t want that to happen, instead of changing your browser settings, you can open PDF files that contain signatures one by one. To do this, click the Open With Different Viewer link when it appears on the document, and choose the option to open with Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. Mozilla is aware of this bug and is working on a solution.

The Student Requirements Dashboard tile serves as the go-to site for students to check to see if they’ve completed all the tasks and requirements allowing them to participate fully in Spring 2021 activities. It went live in mid-December, and during these first few weeks of January, student traffic on the Dashboard has been particularly heavy. We thought we’d share an update on that activity. The majority of students planning to return to campus completed their COVID-19 Testing Requirement by January 6. We expect another surge in testing activity five days prior to February 8, the new date for the start of on-campus classes. There were more than 5000 uploads of test results as of January 15. Most students confirmed their physical address and home number for spring term. The majority of students agreed they would adhere to UNC COVID-19 Community Standards acknowledging that, on or off campus, our individual actions help protect our Carolina community. For more information on the Student Requirements Dashboard, read the article in our December 2020 Newsletter or visit the Carolina Together web page. Outside of the Dashboard, an article about the Class Features page introduced for Spring 2021 enrollment was written up in a leading higher education publication. … Read more
