Did you notice that in the new year, some InfoPorte reports transitioned to Tar Heel Reports? Reports that were available as SAS VA inside of InfoPorte are being moved to Tableau as Tar Heel Reports. Here are some highlights about the Tar Heel Reports and the benefits to you: Not all reports have transitioned to the new technology. If it was transitioned, you’ll see “Now in Tar Heel Reports” next to the report name. The Tar Heel Reports are the same reports you had access to before with a notable change – security is different. You’ll see information for all departments, not just your own. Don’t worry, it’s easy to filter and save the filters you create. When you click the name of a Tar Heel Report in InfoPorte a new window opens with a Sign in to Tableau Reports button. Some Big Wins for You Downloading is easier and more intuitive. You can even pick specific or all columns to download. There are multiple formats to download to, including Image (png), Data (txt/csv), PDF and PPT. Tar Heel Reports load quickly. It’s a noticeable difference from loading SAS Visual Analytics reports. You can save your filters as Favorites. Filter for the department information you need, save … Read more

1) Even if you are requesting something on behalf of someone else, list your name in the Requested for or by field. That way, you receive ticket updates and you can share the information with others as needed. If you enter the other person’s name, only they will receive email updates, although you can still track the request through help.unc.edu under “My Requests.” 2) If you’re submitting an HR-related ticket that concerns another employee, include the employee’s PID and any other useful information (such as position number and employee record) in the Additional Information section for service requests (“Request Service” tickets) or the Please describe your issue below section for incidents (“Something’s Broken” tickets).

Email Communication: Send Date: October 30, 2020 From: ConnectCarolina Communications on behalf of: Janet Rupert, Director, Accounts Payable and Vendor Services, Independent Contractor Vendor Managers To: Anyone with Access to Request Suppliers and Independent Contractors in ConnectCarolina Subject:  Speaker Checklist Form Update   Each year, the University brings in quite a number of guest speakers to address students and participate in forums across campus. During remote instruction, hiring guest speakers has become an increasingly popular way to enhance online learning. To help speed up the process of hiring a guest speaker to present to our campus community, the Accounts Payable team has worked with ITS to further enhance and broaden the stream-lined version of the Independent Contractor form, 708.3.1f Speaker Checklist Form (available Monday, October 19). Most significantly, speaking engagements have been lengthened to one week (from one day), and speakers can perform multiple separate speaking engagements during the calendar year. This change to the process is effective October 19, 2020. Departments can opt to use this form for hiring an independent contractor who meets the following requirements: The speaking engagement lasts no more than one week. The honorarium does not exceed $5,000. The speaker is a US person who … Read more

Employees in certain SHRA Auditing, Business and Finance (ABF) Professional positions will be offered the opportunity to change employment status from SHRA to EHRA Non-Faculty (EHRA-NF) in spring 2023. To be eligible for this new EHRA-NF classification, the ABF Professional position must be both exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and have at least one-third of their job duties reflected as professional accounting duties. As of Sept. 1, 2022, all newly created or vacated  FLSA-exempt positions that meet the new EHRA-NF ABF job classification criteria must be EHRA Non-Faculty, and may no longer be filled as SHRA positions. Any positions already posted and under recruitment as of this date may continue to be filled as SHRA. EHRA ABF Professional job classifications will become part of the EHRA Non-Faculty Instructional, Research and Information Technology (IRIT) category and will be subject to all University policies and procedures applicable to this category of employees. For more information, visit the EHRA Conversion for Auditing, Business, and Finance (ABF) Professionals webpage of the HR at UNC website.

In a few weeks, all faculty, staff and student employees will have positions for their appointments in ConnectCarolina. Why is this important? For seven years (since the ConnectCarolina HR/Payroll go live), the University has been translating our appointments (which don’t have positions) into positions. That’s because those managing finances at the Board of Trustees and at the University System-level think in terms of positions when discussing budgets. The problem is that translating this data is an unstable process that gets increasingly complex as the System Office requests more data. Having all faculty, staff and student employees in positions simplifies this process and brings other benefits like tracking positions without an incumbent and retaining organizational rollups even if positions are empty. Preparing for the change This change is far-reaching, so everyone who works with HR actions (including funding swaps) or posts positions in PeopleAdmin is getting up to speed on what will be different. A new page offers resources to help, including: Brief training “snippets” to explain key changes A list of changes by task For approvers, a list of what to watch for before and after the change takes effect A calendar of important dates Another way to learn more is to attend the HR User Group, which will meet on September 29 at 2:00. Half of the meeting will be dedicated … Read more
