Faculty were first to get this new look with the Faculty Portal but now students and staff will also see modern tile-based screens that keep the most-used features easily available. What’s New for Faculty? Starting May 20, Faculty members will also have access to additional home pages depending on how they use ConnectCarolina. For example, they’ll have access to a Self Service home page to quickly access paycheck and benefits information. It’s a simple click on a drop-down arrow to switch from one home page to another, and it’s easy to change which page they see first. Available ConnectCarolina Home Pages Faculty Portal (All Faculty) SelfService (All Faculty) This home page is available to all employees, prior employees and affiliates. It will include links to see paychecks and to commonly used sites such as TIM. On May 20, ConnectCarolina will have an improved look and navigation. Students, faculty and staff worked with the project team on the new Home page design and functionality. There will be a ConnectCarolina outage from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17 until 7:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, so that we can put in the changes. The first thing you’ll see on May 20 is a smart and simplified log in screen with one green button that will take you to your Home page. A second set of changes for students and those who work with students will be in place in early August including an improved class search and mobile-friendly pages.
Have you ever found yourself working on a task in ConnectCarolina and questioning what the next step is? Keep in mind that searchable online help is available without logging out of ConnectCarolina. From any page in ConnectCarolina, you can click the three vertical dots on the dark blue menu bar to see the Help option. The online help contains information from many of the training materials and other resources including step-by-step instructions for using ConnectCarolina, InfoPorte and related systems. When you click the help option, you’ll see a Welcome to Online Help page. The Contents tab on the left contains folders for Human Resources, Finance, Reporting and Student Administration. Click on a folder to view a list of topics. You can also search for a specific topic by typing it in the Search field or access the ccinfo.unc.edu website and the service desk (help.unc.edu) from the online help page. You can also go to Online Help directly outside of ConnectCarolina.
ConnectCarolina online training is now more accessible than ever. We’re moving training to a new tool called Panopto, making the videos more accessible for everyone, including those with motor, visual, and hearing impairments. Panopto features and functionality, like a table of contents and video thumbnails mean you can click through and skip ahead, making for a better distance learning experience for everyone. You can also speed up or slow down playback up to 2X and add personal notes and bookmarks inside a video. Accessibility Features Vision-impaired students benefit from having the audio recorded for review with screen readers. Screen reader tools, like JAWs, read text displayed on-screen aloud. For students with hearing disabilities, transcriptions and captions synchronized with the audio and video give learners a more complete classroom experience. Research tells us that with or without limitations, most learners (54%) use closed captions at least some of the time. Some learners with physical limitations, like trouble using a mouse, will find that all functionalities in the Panopto interface are accessible by using the tab key to move from function to function.
