Improved reporting performance that makes data available earlier in the workday has been achieved through recent changes to the process of copying data from the ConnectCarolina transactional system to the data warehouse for InfoPorte and SAS reporting. Additional performance upgrades are expected soon. Ensuring that the prior day’s transactions are available on InfoPorte and SAS reports as early during the work day as possible is a major goal of the Enterprise Reporting and Departmental Systems (ERDS) team. Improvement in When Data are Available in InfoPorte and SAS Due to recent process changes, the prior day’s data are now available earlier. The InfoPorte main reports are usually ready before business hours, typically before 7:30am. Secondary reports such as BMS are usually ready around 8:45am. This is primarily due to improvements in how ConnectCarolina financial transactions are loaded into the data warehouse. The ERDS team collaborated on this behind-the-scenes effort, devoting weeks to ensuring that ConnectCarolina data was accurately represented in the data warehouse. A recent upgrade of the SAS environment has helped to stabilize that environment. Additional load-time improvements are anticipated by the end of March for reports created in SAS Visual Analytics. Prior to this performance management pilot, managers completed performance plans and evaluations outside of ConnectCarolina, then entered overall performance and competency ratings in the system. Managers and employees in the pilot group will follow the traditional assessment process, but will complete the forms in ConnectCarolina instead of using paper forms. These forms include performance plans, off-cycle reviews, an employee self-assessment, and evaluations. There is a guide for managers and a guide for employees. Please make sure you select the correct guide since the instructions will be different for the two groups. Note: The instructions in the Performance Management Pilot Guide for Employees only apply to those employees participating in the pilot.

Principal Investigator (PI) Dashboard Coming in September! Have you heard that a redesigned PI Dashboard is rolling out in September?  Based on feedback and requests from principal investigators across campus, the new dashboard provides a snapshot of grant funding and expenses, including salary projections at both the award level and the project level. The information on the dashboard is pulled directly from ConnectCarolina and RAMSeS. Jackie Treschl, Senior Training and Documentation Analyst and Chris Minter, Instructional Designer, were on hand at the 2017 UNC Symposium for Research Administrators on August 3rd to give research administrators and PIs a sneak peek at the dashboard.  “Dashboard Wins” for Principal Investigators and Research Administrators PIs will have direct access to information about their sponsored projects. Research administrators and other financial support staff will be able to see the same view as the PIs they support (their InfoPorte administrators can give them access). Salary projections accurately reflect employee funding information in ConnectCarolina. OSR will see the same view that PIs and research administrators see, making it easier to troubleshoot questions. In the next few weeks, please be on the lookout for additional PI Dashboard resource and training information on ccinfo.unc.edu.
